I thought I had posted a comment, but it has disappeared! I am impressed by the theory behind this project. My husband sold last year a newspaper company that had about 2 newspapers in the South. He did it because, unfortunately, the writing is on the wall. We love the fact that you are going to immortalize through your art this dying and meaningful media form. It is a worldwide phenomenon in the name of "progress". I am impressed by how much thought has gone into this! We are sending a newspaper from Anguilla and St. Martin in the Caribean-British West Indies. We will also get you some papers from England. Best of luck in this fascinating project upon which you have embarked!
so now i have papers from ireland and slovakia and germany. and papers coming from anguilla and st. martin, san francisco, japan, norway, uruguay, argentina, maybe israel, hopefully sweden, and finland as well. please keep spreading the word. help me get as many countries involved....
thank you,
me b

In this time of globally evolving media, a social and cultural icon is dying. As computers and mobile phones continue to gain steam in the information age, a truly physical and tangible link to the world as well as our local communities is disappearing fast, the newspaper is soon to become a thing of the past. I propose that over the next few months i will gather newspapers from all over the world. They will be shredded and used to form blocks of pulp representing buildings from a “quintessential” global village. Each building will then be used to create a permanent impression in blown glass which ironically will destroy the original paper form. The result will be preservation of the form of the item, but loss of the information/material that spawned that form both literally and figuratively.
This is the proposal for work I intend to create for a show called "Global Village" that will open in January 2010. For more info on the show go HERE.
If you would like to participate in this project just leave comments, send pictures but most of all send me newspapers. and spread the word around the world!!!
i would like to have ten newspapers from each participating country, so send me ten or send me one and i'll accumulate what i can. i will keep posting a master list of paper's that i have so when i have enough, participants needn't spend more time or money mailing papers. however i encourage people to continue posting comments including pictures of their homes or favorite buildings from their home countries. descriptive information is helpful.
please send newspapers to:
